5 Ways to Better Your Social Media Presence

Social media is a great way to get your branding secured and reel in an audience that makes sense for you. You don’t need to be an expert at all things social to get started, but it is good to lay some ground rules to start your journey into that side of marketing. That’s where we come in!

Video is king.

“By 2022, online videos will make up more than 82 percent of all consumer internet traffic — fifteen times higher than it was in 2017.” So imagine now, in 2024, just how important video really is.

Video is a great way to grab attention quickly. It’s recommended keeping videos on social media between 60-90 seconds but when you’ve attracted and kept an engaging audience, there’s no stopping you when it comes to the content you produce.

Another great tip when it comes to video is reusing content! Make the shoots worth it. Repurpose short clips to create a new story. Work smarter, not harder!

Make your content relatable.

People love to be connected with brands who they can relate to. Even if you look at the world’s biggest influencers right now, they still pull in their audience with relatable personality traits or topics.

A great way to do this is user-generated content. You as a business may not be exactly related to your audience, but the people who use your product, come to your events, etc. are! Take the posts people tag you in and make it work for your brand. Whether it’s a simple repost, or using photos/videos in upcoming campaigns, it’s another way of working smarter.

Engage, engage, engage.

People don’t follow you just to watch (usually). They want to be a part of your story, however they can. So when people tag you in comments, on posts, etc., reply! It shows your company is active & present in the space. Conversing with your audience not only makes you more relatable, but it makes them feel seen.

This also goes for the negative comments – You know you’ve made it when you start getting hate on your content. Don’t delete these! Hide them if they’re absolutely horrendous of course, but don’t just ignore people when they have criticism or something that might not be the nicest thing to say. This is where your true brand personality shines through. Reply with information, answer questions, and kill them with kindness. Does that always work? Of course not. They could come back with more, antagonizing an argument in the comment section. That’s when you politely bow out. But doing what you can to not run from allegations or negativity will show your dedication and once again, implies your company is actively keeping up with the audience.

When in doubt, hire a professional.

Social media can be a full time job in itself. There’s no shame in needing help. Hire a marketing agency or social media expert that can help take it off your plate, especially as a business owner. There are so many things to worry about in a role like that, you won’t be able to give your all to social media like you need to to succeed.

When hiring a potential person or agency to work with you on strategy, content, etc., make sure your values align. Picking someone that can focus on your objectives and take your story like their own is important. Go with someone who can show you proven success rather than just telling you.

Recreate the wheel.

Joining a trend or taking a good idea and amending it to fit your brand is a great way to make quick content. Of course, everyone would love to have original ideas 100% of the time, but sometimes that’s just not possible. Hopping on a trending sound on TikTok or using a cool new editor you saw another brand use is not shameful, it’s resourceful.

Checking on your competitors to see how they’ve adapted to social media trends is a great way to understand the latest ideas in your industry. Stealing is a no no, obviously. But who says we can’t share!
